Jaimes Crazy House started in Ovalle because of the need for affordable backpacker accomodation in the region. We are a safe family hostel located close to the centre of town. The hostel is a basic house which has everything a backpacker needs. There is a clean bathroom and kitchen, comfortable rooms and information on things to do in and around Ovalle. We also have a cyber café attached to the hostel which is free for everyone to use who stays with us (including Cable Television and WIFI).

My hostel is known for its friendly atmosphere and for providing good service to our guests. It is very important that our guests feel at home, which is why I started this hostel. My passion is to welcome travelers.

The services we offer are: Luggage storage, cable television, free internet and traval information. We also offer beautiful tours in and around Ovalle. Free pickup is also part of our service, for this you just have to contact us a few hours before arrivle.

The price of a dormitory is $ 4.500 (pesos) per night per person.

Hi my name is godert i am a dutchy of 18 years old. I have been in this lovely hostel for 10 days and had a great time. The hostel its self is very small and friendly and has everything you need. The entrance of the hostel is very funny, you enter trough a very small cayer café with 3 computers. Cesar, the guy who works in the cyber café, is really friendly and is always in for a joke.
The city it self is not to big but you still wouldn´t get borded there. The nature around the city is really beautifull and you can do some fantastic tour in and around the area of Ovalle.

Coming from Santiago de Chile
If you are in the capital of Chile, Santiago, you can take a bus from the Terminal direct to Ovalle(costs about 6000/8000 pesos). This will take about 5/6 hours. When you arive at the bus terminal in Ovalle, it is a small 5 minute walk to Jaimes Crazy House. The easy way is to take a taxi and let him drive to the street Tocopilla number 92(do not pay more than 1500 pesos). The other way, the cheaper way, is to walk to the hostal. If you leave the bus station ask the first person you see, ¨Where is the centre?¨ (donde esta el centro?) If you are lucky, they will say the good way. Walk down this road, and after about 500 meters you will see a big supermarket on your left hand side called Deca. Keep walking for another 100 meters and you will see a big square. At your left you will see a big police station. The street parallel to this square is the street Tocopilla!
Coming from Arica
What a lot of people dont know is that it is posible to take a bus directly from Arica to Ovalle. The price is about 18000 pesos and it will take about 18 hours.

We leave the hostel in Ovalle at 7 o´clock in the morning and head for Vicuña. The first thing we are going to visit is the Monument Natural de Pichasca. After this we continue driving to Vicuña. The scenery along this road is magnificent and there will have plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos.
We have lunch at one of the Solar Restaurants when we reach Vicuña, then visit the Capel Pisco Plant, where you can take a guided tour (in Spanish or English) at a cost of 1.000 pesos. After this we visit Museo de Gabriela Mistral, Solar energy panels, Cerro la virgen and the Observatorio Mamalluca.
At about 9.30 at night we leave the Observatorio Mamalluca and go for dinner at one of the beautiful seafood restaurants in La Serena. After dinner we can go, if you want, to some nice bars in the city of Comquimbo.
We will probably be back in Ovalle around midnight.
The price of this beutiful tour is only 10.000 pesos per person. This is the price when there are 2, or more, people doing the tour. The price for only one person is 18.000 pesos. These prices don´t include the food and entrance fees to the museums and observatory.
