| Location |
Dahab is the Arabic word for "gold", and it is almost certain that this local area on the east coast of Sinai derives it's name from the rich sand that colors its beaches. Dahab provides a contrasting atmosphere to its over developed, package tourist southern neighbour, Sharm El-Sheik. Dahab has a growing following, and the name may soon refer to the wealth that tourism is bringing to the small Bedouin date palm settlement of Assalah. The combination of soft sand, world class diving, gorgeous blue waters, an oasis like strip of palm trees coupled with a relaxing atmosphere keeps people coming back to Dahab.
Assalah is the entertainment centre of Dahab, a sprawling conglomeration of palm trees, open air restaurants, bars, markets, hotels and camps that ignite the town with excitement by day and color by night.

Our hostel is just 5 minutes driving from the Dahab bus stop. We offer a free pick up service for our guests from the bus stop. If you are arriving at Sharm El Sheik airport we offer a taxi service for 25 Euro - just give us your flight details; airline number and exact time of arrival. | | Transportation | Pick up from anywhere in Egypt, buses to anywhere in Egypt, flights and ferry tickets.
FROM CAIRO
The trip takes around 6 hours, 110 euro (per trip, not per person).
By public bus: You can also hop on the East Delta bus from the Abasseiya station. Buses leave several times during the day. Buy your tickets in advance, as it's not possible to reserve tickets on the phone. Ticket prices vary from 60 to 80 LE (one way). After a 8-9 hour ride, the Dahab bus station is 5 min. away from the Penguin. We can pick you up for free
Other options: from Cairo are hiring a taxi or getting on a plane to Sharm El Sheikh.
FROM SHARM EL SHEIKH
If you're flying directly into Sharm El Sheikh or arrive there by ferry from Hurghada, we can arrange to pick you up at the airport/port. Just e-mail us your flight information and we'll be waiting for you! You can also share a taxi with others heading towards Dahab for 25 Euro per taxi.
FROM ISRAEL or JORDAN
For those coming in from Eliat (Israel), a pick-up can also be arranged. Another option is hiring a taxi that will cost you around 35 Euro per taxi.

More than 12 years ago, when Dahab was a limited strip of backpacker style accommodation, with a protected beach and abundant coral, we started the Penguin Camp. With 12 rooms, it was clean and simple costing a mere 5LE per night.
Keeping with the friendly camp style atmosphere, we started to build our village into what it is today. Penguin now boasts 50 rooms all with their own bathrooms and 50% with A/C and stunning Red Sea views. Located on the water front 3 minutes walk south of Dahab's centre, it overlooks one of the best snorkeling reefs in the world.
