Description - Bed and breakfast

Named one of "The Best 5 Green Hotels and Inns in New England" (Yankee Magazine, 2017), this award-winning bed & breakfast inn is in the serene countryside of rolling fields and woods complete with llamas. We focus on sustainability & renewable energy without sacrificing copious comfort. Solar & wind power, 4 EV charging stations, free Wi-Fi, sauna, outdoor hot tub, luxurious robes, full liquor service.

A full custom-cooked breakfast (served anytime between 7 a. m. and 9 a. m.) is included with the room rates, and you may choose anything off our menu of choices as well as partake of continental options. Eggs come right from the hens down at the barn, so they are certainly fresh!

Our 8-room fully licensed and insured inn is located back from the roadway on acres of idyllic and serene countryside in Hallowell, Maine, surrounded by rolling fields and woods, yet we are just four miles to the Interstate. The nights are dark with views of the stars, and so peaceful you can hear the crickets sing. Neighbors are few and far between, but great restaurants, musical entertainment, and boutique shopping are just 3 miles away in the National Historic District of downtown Hallowell, and the state capitol building in Augusta, along with endless shopping opportunities, are less than five miles away. The inn has trails connecting to 800+ acres of public land right next door (the Jamie’s Pond Wildlife Management Area) with many more trails suitable for year-round recreation including walking, hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

The entire inn and the many common spaces are available to all the guests. There is full bar service featuring Maine microbrews – even some “on tap” – in the pub area, plus a common guest kitchenette (with refrigerator, microwave, sink, and plates/glassware/mugs/silverware) with coffee/tea/cocoa and home-baked goodies available 24/7. There are more common areas including a dining room, living room, front porch with rocking chairs, brick patio area, and a large art gallery featuring works of local artists (all for sale) who live within 30 minutes of the inn.
Your innkeepers, Scott and Vince, have owned the place since 1992 and it reflects their personalities including farm animals down at the barn (mostly llamas!) and a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. We provide a personalized check-in with a tour of the entire inn, and while we want to give you all the space you need to relax, we are available when needed either at the front desk or via a phone call anytime to our apartment right on-site.

How to get there

From the South: Take I-95 North. You will then need to take an exit just south of Portland onto I-295 north at Exit 44, or north of Portland at Exit 52 onto the Falmouth Spur over to I-295 north. Continue taking I-295 north which reconnects with I-95 north just south of Augusta, and continue on I-95 north. Take Exit 109, the first Augusta Exit, off I-95.

From the North: Take Exit 109A, the last Augusta Exit, off I-95. (Don't take Exit 109B since this just misses the next turn!)

Then, from either direction: Stay in the left lane on the exit ramp for Route 202 West (toward Winthrop), then as soon as you get onto Route 202 West, scoot over into the left turn lane and take a left turn onto Whitten Road (at the first traffic light only a few hundred feet from the end of the exit ramp). Then just watch carefully for our blue and white signs directing you through a series of turns during the next 4 miles to "Maple Hill Farm Inn & Conf. Center" on the Inn Road (our driveway) off the Outlet Road in Hallowell. (Be careful not to miss the second sign just after you turn off Whitten Road which directs you to turn left onto Town Farm Road!)

There is no public transportation in the Augusta, Maine area. There are limited rideshare opportunities, and we offer Uber and Lyft services on a limited basis directly through the Inn.

Nearest airport: Augusta, Maine (AUG) just five miles.
